how psilocybin works

Writer's picture: Ashley LewAshley Lew

let's keep it simple. psilocybin is a compound found in psychedelic mushrooms. psilocybin can stimulate serotonin receptors (primarily subtype 5-HT2A) which allows greater neuroplasticity within the brain. you’ve likely heard of serotonin as it plays a major role in our bodies by sending nerve signals to our body which affect mood, sleep, digestion. SSRI’s (antidepressants) work by increasing serotonin levels in the brain. the difference in using psilocybin to stimulate serotonin verse SSRI’s are vast however I will compartmentalize by sharing - plant medicine (specifically here, psilocybin) is a holistic, side-effect free, non-addictive which mitigates our fear response by maximizing the utilization of neural pathways (opening our mind) to address and heal wounds at the core level. allowing this sacred medicine to bring us back to our heart to release what has been trapped, nurturing that part of us so we can expand to new destinations rather than numb or mask the emotions with suppressants. use the link here to learn more -
